Michael Opacic / Senior Associate



Michael joined Botten Levinson in 2023, having practiced for over 12 years at the Crown Solicitor’s Office representing and advising government on a wide range of commercial, criminal, administrative, and environment law matters. This included in-house secondments within client agencies. Michael holds a Master in Laws from McGill University, Montreal focusing on environmental law, sustainable development and indigenous sovereignty.

Michael’s areas of expertise include:

  • Major project and Crown infrastructure development planning assessment and approval processes;
  • Environment and natural resources law, including site contamination;
  • Aboriginal and State Heritage;
  • Statutory interpretation;
  • Regulatory Prosecutions ;
  • Acting as solicitor and counsel in regulatory and disciplinary proceedings in various courts;
  • Acting as solicitor and counsel in Supreme Court appeals;
  • Advice and representation in judicial review proceedings; and
  • Commercial drafting.

Michael has an ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks, a practical understanding of government processes, and provides tailored strategic advice to clients.
